Legislation Czech Republic

Donation:

  • A law concerning organ donation exists from September 2004 (Transplantation Act).
  • The 'Regulation on Health Capability of Donors' covers safety aspects of donation.
  • 'Commission for Cell and Tissue Transplants of Ministry of Health' was established in 2004. 
  • Organ donation is an opting out system (presumed consent): 'Register of people which do not agree with retrieval of organs / tissues for transplants' is working since September 2004.

Cornea banking:

  • Eye banks need an accreditation of the Ministry of Health as the competent authority. This is granted after inspection and evaluation with regards to Czech legislation.
  • The criteria for the Ocular Tissue Bank Prague are defined in Hygiene-epidemiological rules, confirmed by the Hygienic Institute of the capital of Prague and Ministry of Health.
  • The IFETB Prague is inspected by IFETB according to their rules.
